The hockey association has postponed Sunday’s league match between the women of Amsterdam and HGC. The union took that decision because three players in Amsterdam are infected with the coronavirus and three players are preventively in quarantine. The match has been postponed to next Wednesday.
Sunday is the start of the new hockey season, after the league ended all competitions in April. For the time being there are five duels for the women, six for the men.
In the hockey world there are fears for more corona infections. This week, Kampong coach Roelant Oltmans expressed his astonishment about the working method of the association in the newspaper Trouw. The former league coach is surprised that players are not preventively tested for the virus by the league. “When I see that other sports do regularly test positive for the virus, you can wait for the virus to appear somewhere in the hockey premier league
On Thursday, the association presented additional regulations, where the protocols will be discussed in more detail. There is no mention of testing, but that matches can be moved in case of positive cases.
According to KNHB director Erik Gerritsen, taking collective tests on all teams is too expensive for the hockey association. “I would prefer to have all the teams in the premier league tested before each match, but the money would have to come from an external party”, Gerritsen says in the article.
