Preparation Australian Open moved: play in Victoria state

The Australian tennis tournaments in the run-up to the upcoming edition of the Australian Open, as well as the ATP Cup, should be held in the southern state of Victoria.

This is what the Australian Tennis Association has decided to reduce the number of travel movements and thus the risk of infection with the coronavirus. The authorities still have to agree with the plan.

Acid for Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart

In the weeks before the first major of the year at Melbourne Park, next year from 18 to 31 January, ATP and WTA tournaments will normally be held in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Hobart. They therefore grab next to that with this construction.

For these events, an alternative is being sought within Victoria. In addition to Melbourne, provincial cities such as Bendigo and Traralgon are looked at.

This year, the Australian Open was won by Novak Djokovic and Sofia Kenin. The next year‘s edition is partly dedicated to the return of the again fit Roger Federer.

Kiki Bertens won’t be in Melbourne. She needs months of rehab from surgery on her Achilles tendon.
