British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is not going to Prince Philips funeral. He is happy to give his place to a family member, now that, due to corona, there can only be 30 people at the ceremony at Windsor Castle.
“ The Prime Minister has always had the best interests of the royal family and so, in order to have as many relatives as possible at the funeral, he does not attend the ceremony,” says a Johnson spokesman to British media.
Johnson paid tribute to Philip on Friday, who died at the age of 99. The land will mourn with the royal family and the queen, he said.
The Duke of Edinburgh and the husband of Queen Elizabeth will be buried next Saturday. The Queen has proclaimed a period of national mourning until the funeral. The family itself will observe a two-week mourning period.
