PSG also goes down with Neymar and Di María, in dark red classic

It will take some getting used to for fans of Paris Saint-Germain: after two league games, the autocrat is still at zero points in French football. After Thursday‘s defeat at Lens, Olympique Marseille was too strong on Sunday: 0-1.

Paris Saint-Germain again had three of the seven players against archrival Marseille who missed the hit with Lens because of a positive coronation test. Neymar and Ángel Di María started in the base, Leandro Paredes raided 20 minutes before time.

Kylian Mbappé, goalkeeper Keylor Navas, Mauro Icardi and Marquinhos were still not on the match selection.

Marseille got the lead after half an hour, via Florian Thauvin. The striker was completely free with a free kick from Dimitri Payet and tapped from close range (0-1).

Paris Saint-Germain did not beat that hit in the classic which was heated up old-fashioned and in the closing stages even went completely off the rails, with five red cards.

Neymar accuses opponent of racism

Neymar and Payet turned yellow after just eleven minutes, after they got it together and in injury time Neymar let themselves go again during a riot. He was able to go straight this time, as were teammates Layvin Kurzawa and Paredes and opponents Jordan Amavi and Darío Benedetto.

Neymar got the red card for trying to hit Álvaro González on the back of his head. As he walked down the field, Neymar shouted to officials that he had been racist. He later reported on Twitter: “I’m just sorry I didn‘t hit this idiot in the face”

Substitute Kevin Strootman was one of the twelve players who received yellow from referee Jérôme Brisard.

The two 1-0 defeats represent Paris Saint-Germain’s worst start to the season since 1978/79. Also then the first two league games were lost and PSG did not score in those duels.
