Olympiakos Piraeus lost the Greek classic against Panathinaikos in the run-up to the Europa League meeting with PSV. On a visit to the great rival, it went down with 2-1.
After six minutes, Olympiakos, without the PSV rented and injured Bruma, faced a backlog. Mauricio signed Younousse Sankharé for the early 1-0, while the Frenchman himself made the second goal for Panathinaikos in the second half. In the final phase Olympiakos did something back through Youssef El Arabi. During the injury period, the visitors ended with ten men, after a second yellow card for Ousseynou Ba.
Although it was a clash with the archrival, Olympiakos could not afford to start with the strongest lineup. Because of the big lead in the competition, still 14 points on Aris, it could run into defeat without jeopardizing the title.
