After a tie against Ajax (2-2) and a painful home defeat against AZ (1-3), PSV has won its first 2021 victory. In a match full of goals and missed opportunities, the Eindhoven Ars finally scored a 3-5 victory over the line to visit Sparta.
In the snow at Het Kasteel trainer Roger Schmidt saved some fixed values, namely Captain Denzel Dumfries and top scorer Donyell Malen. With them on the couch PSV came out badly. Pablo Rosario lost the ball on his own half with a very sloppy pass, after which Bryan Smeets could steam up quite unhindered and smash the ball into the intersection.
Even in the rest of the first twenty minutes PSV could not convince. The equalizer of Mauro Júnior actually fell from the sky. Noni Madueke gave for and the Brazilian showed up free to nod the ball in. A few minutes later there was a new setback for Sparta, when Smeets had to look up the dressing room after a slide on the slippery field. Cody Gakpo did not finish the first half, although it seemed less to have to do with the bad turf. Milling was his replacement.
Two goals in three minutes
PSV ended the first half as a parent, but did not come to very big odds. After the break, it was different. After less than a minute and a half Rosario gave a chance introductory pass for his own team and Malen finished excellent. Another one and a half minutes later, Madueke stayed calm to sign for the 1-3 after a fine move by Jordan Teze.
A fifteen minutes later, Sparta had a big chance at the connection hit. The cold in the field Reda Kharchouch went to Yvon Mvogo and then hit the Swiss goalie. Halfway through the second half, Philipp Max, who also hit the target against AZ midweek, decided the match. With his weak judge, the German left-back goalkeeper Maduka Okoye surprised, who should have had the bet.
Still, Sparta didnt want to play out the remainder. The newly invaded Danzell Gravenberch placed his shot nicely outside the range of Mvogo in the far corner. Although there was still a foot of Dumfries in between, which made the ball fit perfectly. After that came a phase, in which both teams could have scored more often. First Malen did a bad job on Max after a counter, which allowed Dirk Abel to take the ball off the line. On the other hand, Gravenberch went to Mvogo alone, but he missed miserably.
A few minutes later, Sparta got an even greater chance. Kharchouch was allowed to dock from 11 meters after a violation of Teze. Kharchouch did not fail at this great opportunity and thus created an exciting final phase. However, PSV straightened its back just in time and did not
get into trouble in the remaining minutes and even reached 3-5 via Malen in the final minute. The Amsterdammers will still play the Classical against Feyenoord on Sunday.
PSV defender Denzel Dumfries was not shocked when he saw his team soon behind from the spare bench. “We had to get there for a moment,” says the captain of the Eindhovenaren, who finally won with 5-3.
“ I am happy with the victory. Eventually earned, I think,” says Dumfries against ESPN. “The field was very slippery. Too slippery? I dont know. The ref said play. Then we play.”
PSV was successful at the initial stage of the second half, twice even. “I dont think everyone was in place yet,” said Dumfries laughing at the hits of Donyell Malen (47th minute) and Noni Madueke (49th minute).
Dumfries started, because of the busy competition program, just like Malen on the bench. “I can understand that, yes. The trainer determines it.”
