Quay along Amsterdam canal collapsed

In the centre of Amsterdam a piece of quay wall collapsed. Nobody was hurt. In the video above you can see the damage.

A team of experts is now looking at what needs to be done to prevent more damage. For safety’s sake, no one is allowed in the building on the quay.

An investigation in July showed that many bridges and quays in Amsterdam are no longer solid enough. The city council says they are spending extra money to make the structures stronger. In total, this could cost as much as 2 billion euros.

It’s not clear why the quay collapsed now. Experts say it could have come from a sinkhole. That’s being investigated now.
