Raymond van Barneveld won his Tour card for the PDC on Wednesday. On Wednesday the last day of the final round of the so-called Qualifying School, the five-time World Champion grabbed the coveted start certificate and that did not leave him untouched, he says.
“ Mission accomplished! I had to fight for it what a high level, unprecedented! Thank you all for your support, lots of messages thank you so much…”, Barney writes on Instagram.
He continues: “I was moved and emotional today, I would have loved to win a day but later had to realize that 3rd in this battle is just top, so Im happy and thank you again for the support!”
Van Barneveld announced his farewell in 2019. He struggled with himself and with his personal situation. Barney hoped for a big farewell at the World Cup in London, but it became a disappointment.
In early 2020, he finished his dart career at a party night in AFAS Live, in front of old rivals such as Phil Taylor and Bobby George. More than half a year later, Van Barneveld announced his return from his dart pension.
Dartsicoon Phil Taylor, now stopped at the highest level, was one of the first people to congratulate Barney on the successful outcome in Germany. “Congratulations to my former sparring partner,” said The Power on Twitter. “Youve shown guts to show yourself at the Q School. Well done friend and good luck at your return on the PDC Tour. Brilliant.”
Niels Zonneveld also assured himself of a tour card from dartsbond PDC on Wednesday. On Monday Geert Nentjes already conquered a starting ticket.
