37 parties participate in the Second Chamber elections in March, the Electoral Council announced. Thats a post-war record. After Tuesday, four more parties have lost weight: Zorgend Nederland, Healthy Earth, Evert! , The Youth Party.
The Electoral Council rejected them because, for example, they had not collected sufficient declarations of support. Zorgend Nederland and Healthy Earth have still objected, but that was rejected in a public session. At the time the deadline for submitting the candidate lists expired, last Monday, these two parties did not have their affairs in order and therefore they cannot participate.
The first twenty parties are on the ballot throughout the Netherlands. At the top are the parties that are already represented in the House of Representatives. The order is determined on the basis of the number of votes they received in the previous elections.
Subsequently, there are parties such as Bij1 of Sylvana Simons, the Forum for Democracy Division JA21, the pro-European Volt and the Islam-inspired party Nida. These too are on the list in all 20 constituencies.
Two VSN lists
The party Vrij en Sociaal Nederland (Vrij en Sociaal Nederland), which originally also attended Viruswaardheid-foreman Willem Engel, has submitted two separate candidate lists. Since only one can be registered as a VSN on the ballot, the second one is number 30 as blank list.
A large number of people from the USN constituents objected to this during the public session. They are angry at the VSN leader Filippini and want the two lists to be merged so that the party can also participate in more constituencies.
This morning, the Electoral Council stated that two lists were submitted on Monday: one by Filippini and one by Anna Seven, who is in conflict with him. Both lists meet the conditions in a limited number of constituencies and thus appear there as a VSN or blank list on the ballot. Willem Engel is now on the last list as a candidate.
Candidates can still appeal against the decisions of the Electoral Council until 9 February.
28 parties participated in the previous elections. That was also a record record number at the time. The absolute record is 53 parties in 1922.
