Beneath the arrests are two Russian citizens and one Swede. In addition, about thirty journalists were arrested, including correspondents of the BBC, Deutsche Welle and the international press agencies Reuters, AP and Tass. Local journalists from the Belarusian news sites Tut.by and Nasha Niva were also arrested.
The Belarusian Ministry of the Interior denies that the journalists were arrested. They were only taken to check documents. After a few hours most of them were released. Photographers were forced to empty their photo rolls.
A journalist from Belsat filmed the arrest:
Dozens of journalists have been arrested since the beginning of the protests. International media are hardly welcome in the country. The arrested foreign journalists therefore often worked without press accreditation, writes journalist Hanna Liubakova on Twitter.
