Remkes and Great Tit: formation becomes different, an experiment

The next phase of the cabinet formation will be an experiment. Thats what the new informers Remkes and Koolmees said in an explanation of their work on the press. Unlike previous formations, there really needs to be a concise coalition agreement and the new cabinet has to work on the much-requested new governance culture.

โ€œIts a nice, but also incredibly difficult job,โ€ said Remkes, who managed to force a breakthrough in recent weeks by getting the current coalition of VVD, D66, CDA and ChristenUnie back to the table. โ€œIt will undoubtedly be pioneering, as negotiations are being revamped.โ€ โ€œAn experiment. Were really going to try something new,โ€ added Kooltit.

The informers still hope that other parties than the current four will also be willing to provide input. Remkes mainly looks at PvdA and GroenLinks, although they have already indicated their intention to focus entirely on opposition. โ€œWere not going to try to convince them. Its an open invitation, but Im assuming parties in the world are to bear responsibility.โ€

Remkes on collaboration with PvdA and GroenLinks:

The negotiators call for a concise coalition agreement is high. That should also give the House of Representatives more room to adjust the policy, in a more dualistic system. According to Remkes and Koolmees, the coalition agreement must actually only contain the goals that the parties want to achieve. The ministers will then have to work out what measures are needed in a government programme.

VVD, D66, CDA and ChristenUnie are facing major challenges, such as the climate crisis, the nitrogen problem and the public housing, according to the informers. โ€œThe Netherlands needs a cabinet that tackles the problems decisively,โ€ Koolmees said.

โ€œThe question of how long this phase will last is not easy to answer,โ€ said Kooltit. โ€œWe do have a deadline in our heads, but of course were not going to say that,โ€ Remkes said.
