Renault withdraws appeal against penalty Racing Point

Renault ends the fight in the case of the ‘illegal’ car of the Racing Point team. The French Formula 1 stable withdraws the appeal it had lodged following the recent ruling of the FIA, the international motorsport federation.

Racing Point would have copied parts of last year’s successful Mercedes. For that, the team recently received a fine of 400,000 euros and fifteen World Championship points.

‘Controversy behind us’

So now Renault has decided to drop the case. “In agreement with the FIA, concrete steps have been taken to ensure the originality of the sport by adapting the regulations for next season”, the race stable said. “We have to put the controversy behind us.”

It is not yet certain whether Ferrari and Racing Point themselves, who had also objected, will abandon their appeal. Earlier McLaren and Williams did.
