Minister Kuipers of Health has instructed the RIVM and the GGDs to prepare a new vaccination round against corona. In the autumn, vulnerable people will probably be offered a new repeat shot at first, Kuipers writes to the House of Representatives.
The minister previously announced that he is taking into account a new vaccination round if the virus flares up again after the summer. The GGDs are working on a plan to start with 300,000 pricks per week, expanding to 1.5 million per week in six weeks. Such a scale-up is necessary if the repeat shot is offered not only to the vulnerable, but to the entire population.
No decision yet
Because the GGDs are struggling to find sufficient staff in the current labour market, they already want to start recruiting and selecting people. That is why Kuipers is already commissioned to prepare the campaign, even though no decision has been made to actually prick.
“I think it is very important that the implementation of a new vaccination round is ready on time to start vaccination as soon as possible if this is necessary”, Kuipers informs the House of Representatives. His budget had already taken into account a puncture round in the autumn.
