Robben has a crack in calf: ‘I was considering stoping’

Former Orange-International Arjen Robben has recently considered to end his career permanently. This confessed the attacker of FC Groningen on Tuesday in front of the camera of FOX Sports, before the start of the cup match against FC Emmen.

The 36-year-old attacker is injured to his calf, but his recovery is less prosperous than hoped. โ€œIts been dirty. I have a crack in my calf muscle and I am now rebuilding it.โ€

Robben, who waved off from Bayern Munich in July 2019 and returned to Groningen a season later, was close to a second pension. โ€œI must honestly say: the energy was gone for a while, you know. Then you consider, and that makes sense to me, to stop. But somewhere that sportsman is inside me… A little voice in my head stops it.โ€

Last summer, after a year of absence, Robben made his return in professional football, but so far with little sporting success. In his first match for FC Groningen, at home against PSV, the attacker fell out injured after half an hour.

In mid-October Robben competed against FC Utrecht and competed for fifteen minutes, but since then he was missing in the selection of Groningen. At the beginning of December he said this on the clubs website: โ€œI will use the coming time to recover and very much want to be on the pitch with the team in the new year and start playing matches. Whether this is going to work, I cant tell you right now. That will be clear in the coming period.โ€
