Robben reassures fans: Youre not rid of me yet

The way Arjen Robben left the field on Sunday, after he had been injured, made fans fear the worst. But the attacker continues, he assures a day later in conversation with de Volkskrant.

“Giving up doesnt occur in my dictionary”, says Robben, who during FC Groningen-PSV (1-3) dropped out within half an hour with a inguinal hurrah, threw off his captains collar and shirt and walked straight to the dressing rooms.

Robben: “Its now important not to languish in a corner, but to laugh with some self-mockery and continue with a positive feeling. You havent got rid of me yet.”

The 96-fold international returned to the football fields this summer by surprise, after focusing on other things for a year. The announcement of Robbens return led to a wave of happy anticipation – and not only among fans of FC Groningen, who bought a season ticket en masse.

Sunday he started in the base against PSV, the club for which he once left FC Groningen, before creating a furore at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. But Robbens performance did not last long.
