Roland Garros: Nadal simple by, Rus and Schuurs round further in doubles

Rafael Nadal has simply reached the next round at Roland Garros. The Spaniard won in three sets by American Mackenzie McDonald, in a game where he had to give up only four games: 6-1 6-0 6-3.

โ€œI went full,โ€ Nadal said afterwards. โ€œThat‘s what I do every game. I always want to show you my best tennis. This time it worked pretty well, but it will be harder to win every round. This doesn’t say much. Who‘s favorite here? It is far too early to say anything about that.โ€

The twelve-time winner of the French Grand Slam tournament had won three sets of the Belarusian Egor Gerasimov in the first round: 6-4 6-4 6-2.

The second placed Spaniard passed the US Open because of the coronavirus.

US Open winner Thiem

Dominic Thiem has reached the third round of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris. The third Austrian took over Roland Garros in three sets with American Jack Sock: 6-1 6-3 7-6 (6).

Thiem, the winner of the US Open this month, started his game in the second round against the 28-year-old American. The 27-year-old Austrian broke his opponent’s storage three times and won the set in 28 minutes. In the second set, one break on 4-3 had enough to win the set.

Only in the third was Sock able to give back on the service of his opponent and twice brushing away a break backlog. In the tiebreak, the American got two setpoints, but Thiem worked them away and won with 8-6

in the third round Thiem finds the winner of the game between Norwegian Casper Ruud and American Tommy Paul.

Wawrinka

Stan Wawrinka has reached the third round at Roland Garros. The 35-year-old Swiss defeated Dominik Kรถpfer on the gravel in Paris in the second round in four sets: 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-1.

Wawrinka, winner in Paris in 2015 and now placed 16th, defeated British Andy Murray in three sets in the first round in the French capital. In the next round, Wawrinka plays against the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka or the Frenchman Hugo Gaston.

Schuurs with Peschke to second round in Paris

Demi Schuurs and her double partner Kveta Peschke from the Czech Republic got through to the second round of the double tournament in Paris. The sixth couple was in two sets too strong for the Japanese duo Nao Hibino and Makoto Ninomiya: 7-6 (5) 5-7 6-4

Schuurs won the double tournament in Strasbourg, her 12th WTA title before Roland Garros. That‘s what she did with her American double partner Nicole Melichar. With Peschke at her side, she won the title at the Cincinnati tournament a few weeks earlier.

Schuurs and Peschke served for the game on 5-4 in the second set, but then gave it off their hands. The Japanese tennis players took a break and a little later also the set. In the third set, the Dutch and Czech were once again given the chance to decide the party on their own service after a break on 5-4. I did it this time.

Rus did round further in doubles

Arantxa Rus has reached the second round of Roland Garros in the double tournament. The 29-year-old Westland, together with her Czech partner Marie Bouzkova, defeated the duo

Ana Bogdan from Romania and Rebecca Peterson from Sweden: 6-4 4-6 6-4.

In the second round of the doubles, Rus and her partner now meet the winners of the game between the first placed duo Su-Wei Hsieh from Taiwan and Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic to compete against the American Maria Sanchez and the Australian Astra Sharma.

Svitolina is beyond breakdowns

Elina Svitolina has recovered in time against Renata Zarazua in the second round of Roland Garros after a breakdown in the second set.

She pulled the third set quite easily towards her (6-2), after losing the second one without chance by 0-6. The third placed Ukrainian was the strongest in the first company with 6-3.

โ€œ It was very difficult,โ€ Svitolina looked back. โ€œRenata kept going and never gave up a single moment. Because of that, I had to go to the limit at every ball. Sometimes it was frustrating. Fortunately, it ended well.โ€

Svitolina had won the Russin Varvara Gratsheeva in two sets in the first round: 7-6 (2) 6-4, and won the Strasbourg tournament last Saturday.

Victoria Azarenka disappeared from the tournament. The tenth placed Belarusian lost in two sets of the Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, 2-6 2-6

Simona Halep

Simona Halep has reached the third round. In just under an hour and a half, the first Romanian defeated her compatriot Irina-Camelia Begu in two sets: 6-3 6-4.third round plays the Romanian against Amanda Anisimova from the US. It is a repeat of last year’s quarter-final party that the American won surprisingly.

Halep, the winner of the 2018 grandslam tournament in Paris, immediately took a break head start and grabbed the first set with 6-3 after breaks on both sides. That‘s what happened in the second set where Halep hit 4-4 on her compatriot’s storage turn. Then she served the batch.

โ€œ It was a tricky party. She played very well and her service was strong,โ€ Halep praised her compatriot. โ€œI‘m looking forward to the next round again.โ€ In it, the Romanian again plays against Anisimova from the US. โ€œI hope I’m doing better than last year,โ€ said Halep.
