Georginio Wijnaldum is very pleased with the efforts that AS Roma has made to take him over from Paris Saint-Germain. The 31-year-old midfielder was presented Friday night at the Stadio Olimpico.
Wijnaldum makes the switch on a rental basis, but the Romans did stipulate an option to buy allegedly eight million euros. “Its exciting to be a Roma player now. All the people I spoke to gave me an excellent feeling about the club and the fans,” he says on the club site.
“With the efforts Roma made to close the deal, they showed how much they wanted me. Just like the fans have shown in the past few days. That gives a player a lot of confidence,” continues the 86-time Dutch international, who also wants to play in the spotlight of national coach Louis van Gaal at I Giallorossi. “I will commit one hundred percent and help the team compete for all our goals.”
Roma director Tiago Pinto is pleased that a player of the caliber Wijnaldum is settling down in the Italian capital. “Wijnaldums choice is yet another example that players with a lot of quality and personality believe in the project of this club. They are fully committed to making the negotiations successful.” Previously, coach José Mourinho was given access to Paulo Dybala, among other things.
The fact that Wijnaldum won the Champions League, the Premier League and Ligue 1 in his career appeals to Romas imagination. “We can only be delighted with his arrival: Gini has innate leadership, which has made him captain of one of the strongest national teams in the world, as well as a class that will make our team increasingly competitive.”
