Cristiano Ronaldo has caused major relief at Manchester United on Wednesday. The English powerhouse fell 0-2 behind Atalanta Bergamo, but won 3-2 thanks to Portuguese, Bayern Munich managed to break Benfica‘s resistance: 0-4.
Manchester United – Atalanta Bergamo 3-2Manchester United won only one of his last five official duels and so manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to intervene. The Norwegian posed Paul Pogba on the couch, but Donny van de Beek was no place. At Atalanta, Teun Koopmeiners and Marten de Roon appeared at the kickoff and they got Old Trafford silent within 15 minutes. Mario Pasalic crawled for his husband and tapped in: 0-1, it went from bad to worse for United. Teun Koopmeiners put the ball out of a corner shovel excellently on the head of Merih Demiral, who doubled the score within half an hour.
United got two more big chances at rest, but Fred and Marcus Rashford failed to make the hookup target. Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t work out after the break. The Portuguese star suddenly stood free, took a good job, but shot right at goalkeeper Juan Agustín Musso. Then United straightened the back. After a brilliant through ball by Bruno Fernandes, Rashford went to the Italian goal alone and now he finished 1-2.
Suddenly United lived again, but it owe it to David de Gea. The Spaniard rescued on a bang by Duván Zapata, and immediately afterwards on a swab shot by Ruslan Malinovskyi. That proved crucial, as Harry Maguire equated fifteen minutes before time. The Mancunians smoked blood and Ronaldo showed his class ten minutes before time: with a powerful header he made 3-2 of it. As a result, United is now top in group F.
FC Young Boys – Villarreal 1-4Villarreal has booked a 1-4 win with FC Young Boys with Arnaut Danjuma in the base. As early as the sixth minute, the Spanish got ahead via Yéremi Pino, who was listening to his nineteenth birthday with a rake header. Gerard Moreno made it 2-0 ten minutes later, making Villarreal seem to have a simple evening. Young Boys then crawled out of his shell a little more and fifteen minutes before Meschack signed Elia for the hookup target.
Villarreal’s answer followed directly via Moreno and in the final phase it also turned 1-4 via Samuel Chukwueze. Villarreal now has four points like Atalanta, two less than Manchester United.
Benfica – Bayern Munich 0-4Bayern Munich seemed to be biting itself for a long time on Benfica‘s defense. For example, Der Rekordmeister saw goals by Robert Lewandowski (hands) and Thomas Müller (offside) were frowned upon. The class difference, however, ultimately gave the decisive factor. Leroy Sané shot a free kick twenty minutes before time. Suddenly the Portuguese resistance had broken. Through its own goal by Everton, Lewandowski and again Sané, it became 0-4.
Bayern does not only do itself but also FC Barcelona a good service. The German champion heads in Group E with nine points, followed by Benfica (four) and Barça (three).
Now it definitely counts 😋 Leroy Sané shoots Bayern at 0-1 in a delightful way, the goalkeeper is no chance on this fine staircase 👌 #ZiggoSport #UCL #BENBAY pic.twitter.com/MdxeSxjL1I
