Aad de Mos worked at PSV with Harry van Raaij, who died today at the age of 84. De Mos was a trainer at the club from Eindhoven, while Van Raaij was the treasurer at that time.
De Mos returned a list of three Brazilian players to Van Raaij, who had to make sure that PSV was back in the Netherlands and Europe. “I went to Brazil then, where I visited three matches,” says De Mos in conversation with FOX Sports. “Three of them stood out: Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo and Ronaldo. I handed in the reports and said: if we can get those three to Eindhoven, we can come a long way. To make it difficult for Ajax, even in Europe we could have made a furore.”
“Everything was thrown on the scales. We wanted to do it step by step,” says De Moss. PSV won Ronaldo and decided to wait and see how he would develop before looking at Roberto Carlos and Rivaldo. Those turned out to be unfeasible in the end. “But we had good times with the couple Ronaldo/Nilis.”
