Antonio Cassano believes that Cristiano Ronaldo should keep the honor to himself and hang his shoes on the willow. The Portuguese has had its best time, says the former attacker from Internazionale, among others.
Ronaldo announced during the international period that he would like to continue until the 2024 European Championships, but Cassano, who has officially quit as a football player since 2018, does not think this is wise. “Weve reached the point where Ronaldo has to do himself a favor,” he tells Cabine Desportiva. “He has to understand: if you dont reach a certain level, your time is over. He won everything, he was a phenomenon. Stop it! Either you quit now or you end up on the couch.”
Chances are that Cassanos words have fallen on deaf ears. “The 2022 World Cup is the first goal, but the European Championships in 2024 are next. Im still feeling the motivation. My ambitions are high. I want to be there at the World Cup and at the European Championships,” said Ronaldo, who can no longer count on Erik ten Hag as a club at Manchester United.
