Rooney Seals Return: Legend, One of the Most Promising Trainers

Wayne Rooney is back at DC United after 2.5 years. The all-time English top scorer returns to the US club as manager, where he reached 52 official games in 2018 and 2019.
DC United dangles at the bottom of Major League Soccers Eastern Conference after seventeen games. Trainer Hernán Losada was fired in April, Chad Aston observed the honors and Rooney was presented as a permanent successor on Tuesday. “Wayne is a football legend and one of the most promising trainers of the moment,” board members Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan say in a statement. “He has already proven in his early career that he can lead a group of players in difficult circumstances.”
Rooney took over Phillip Cocu
s baton at Derby County at the end of 2020 and had to keep The Rams in the Championship last season, despite a whopping 21 points deduction due to financial problems. Eventually, they fell short of seven points.
