A planned expansion of the British nuclear arsenal is bad in Russia and Iran. Moscow says that the plan is detrimental to “international stability”. The Iranian Foreign Minister blames British Prime Minister Boris Johnson hypocrisy.
The British Government announced new nuclear weapons policy this week. The British were shrinking their arsenal, but thats coming to an end. According to the BBC, it is estimated that the United Kingdom has 195 nuclear warheads. This figure would fall to 180 in the coming years, but can now be extended to 260.
Threat to Peace
The Kremlin reacted disappointed Wednesday. A spokesman said he regretted that the British are opting for more warheads. He called the existence of nuclear weapons a global threat to peace.
Iran reacted fiercely before. “Complete hypocrisy. Boris Johnson says “worried that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon” on the same day that he announces his country will increase the amount of nuclear weapons,” tweeted Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. He argued that Iran does believe that nuclear weapons are “barbaric and should be destroyed”.
