Atlético Madrid won the eighth Champions League finals by defeating Red Bull Salzburg in the last group match.
In the battle for second place in group A it won with 2-0 among the Austrians. Bayern Munich, which at 2-0 was too strong for Lokomotiv Moscow, was already certain of the group profit.
Salzburg had to win to get Atlético out of second place and started fiercely. Mergim Berisha shot at the pole, Dominik Szoboszlai stumbled upon Atlético keeper Jan Oblak and Enock Mwepa headed over.
But the goal fell across the street: Mario Hermoso got out of a free kick by Yannick Carrasco.
After the rest, little changed to the game image. Salzburg, which never wintered in the Champions League, received some great opportunities through Rasmus Kristensen, Szoboszlai, Patson Daka and Mwepa, missed them and then saw Atlético strike out of a counter: a cross of Angel Correa was pushed by Carrasco with a volley.
City wins group C, Olympiakos to Europa League
In group C, almost all the cards were shaken before tonight. Manchester City and FC Porto were already sure of the next round in the Champions League, Olympique Marseille and Olympiakos still competed for the Europa League ticket.
City-Marseille finished in 3-0 and Olympiakos-Porto in 0-2, which means that the Greeks, who ended up in the same way as the French, are wintering in Europe because of a better mutual result.
The group profit was for City, that Porto eventually remains three points ahead of the final score. Although there was nothing left at stake for City, the English went full for profit. It was due to goals after rest of Ferran Torres, Sergio Agüero and Raheem Sterling.
FC Porto won Olympiakos by a penalty of Otávio and a shot by Mateus Uribe.
