‘SC Cambuur loses captain presumably transfer-free to William II’

Erik Schouten must become the first summer acquisition of the demoted William II. The Tilburgers want to take him transfer-free from SC Cambuur, where his contract expires. This is reported by the Brabants Dagblad.
Schouten played for Cambuur since 2019, with which he promoted to the Premier League just under two years later. The thirty-year-old defender quickly grew into captain and was a permanent fixture in Leeuwarden. This season he played 29 Eredivisie duels. Cambuur was therefore keen to renew his expiring contract, but Schouten did not accept the offer and wanted to look for a new adventure.
According to the Brabants Dagblad, he has now found it with Willem II, who is very interested and could present him soon. Schouten would become the third centre-back in the selection of trainer Kevin Hofland, after Ulrik Jenssen and Freek Heerkens. He played earlier in the youth of AZ and for FC Volendam.
