Klaas-Jan Huntelaar‘s return to Schalke 04 is not yet a success. The experienced striker has only been able to play for ten minutes and had to pass the other matches by a calf injury.
That injury is still a problem with him, because it is unclear whether Huntelaar will be able to make the competition match against RB Leipzig on Saturday afternoon. The Hunter was missing on Wednesday in the cup with VfL Wolfsburg (1-0 defeat), but then there was still hope that he could play on the weekend.
That doesn’t seem to happen right now, although trainer Christian Gross still has a blow to the arm. He hopes that the Achterhoeker will at least be fit enough to sit on the couch. “We do not want to take risks with him”, let the practice master know on the club site. “I just hope he can still sit on the couch.”
Schalke is the desolate gate of the Bundesliga. The backlog of Arminia Bielefeld, which is sixteenth and is in a position that means playoff football at the end of the ride, amounts to nine points.
