Schmidt: ‘Go Ahead was our best opponent in the Premier League so far’

Roger Schmidt is critical of PSV‘s performance and his captain Cody Gakpo, but is happy with the three points. In addition, the German practice master is particularly praise about Go Ahead Eagles.
โ€œIt was a really tough match. Go Ahead Eagles played fantastic. High intensity and they fought for every ball. They made it really hard for us. We struggled, but in the end we won. That’
s very important to us.โ€ Marco van Ginkel saved three points for PSV, which got away well in the closing seconds. โ€œMy heart beat? It was normal,โ€ Schmidt says. โ€œOf course we were lucky, but we worked hard. These victories count too.โ€
Schmidt gives compliments to the Devenans. โ€œGo Ahead Eagles is the best opponent we‘ve encountered in the Premier League this season. Better than Feyenoord? I loved them. I’m not saying they‘re the best team in the league, but the way they played today. They earned at least a point. I really liked the high intensity and the courage at the ball.โ€
Cody Gakpo was important for PSV again, but Schmidt remains critical of his captain. โ€œCody had offensive good moments, but without a ball and defending he wasn’
t top level. That could be better.โ€ Hans Kraay junior rejects Gakpo scoring, giving an assist and looking vigorously. โ€œMaybe because I switched him on Sunday,โ€ the German refers to the much-discussed moment from the top perks. โ€œI know you want to go there with your question.โ€
โ€œBut you see that the schedule demands a lot from the players,โ€ Schmidt continues. โ€œIt‘s one thing they’re tired, but now we have a problem with Noni Madueke. It‘s a muscle injury. I always have to take care of the players. We can talk about my changes for a long time, but in my eyes I’m right.โ€
