Roger Schmidt is considering starting PSV in a 4-3-3 formation. De Eindhovenaren are currently playing from a 4-2-2-2 formation, but that changes in some matches to a 4-3-3 setup. That didn‘t turn out bad so far, which made Schmidt think.
“It’s an option to start in 4-3-3,” says Schmidt to Football International. “We have already done that a couple of times. Sometimes it‘s better too.” However, a possible change of formation does not mean that PSV will play football in a completely different way, says Schmidt. “The behaviour of the players in the pressing as well as in the possession of the ball changes very little. Because the mindset remains almost the same, we can vary it in competitions.”
Schmidt claims that the way PSV plays is constantly changing. In what way, hanht from multiple factors. “We adapt our style to the busy programme and to the qualities of our players. We need something special in this season, we’re looking for the football that fits best tactically at the moment. Sometimes it is not possible to play pressing and we have to be tactically smart to continue to handle our energy.”
