Schmidts radical approach to PSV: A player has no pause

Roger Schmidt had to get used to PSV. And PSV especially to Roger Schmidt. This month, in all top competitions, it must be clear whether the approach of the German trainer is the right one for the Eindhoven riders.

โ€œ Its hard for some players, theyre not used to it,โ€ says the demanding Schmidt.

But now his team has to be there, when this afternoon in the Johan Cruijff Arena the first big test awaits with the match against Ajax. Strength measurements with AZ (three days later) and Feyenoord (31 January) will also follow this busy period.

Although PSV has a point less than the leader Ajax and the goal balance is 20 goals worse, the Eindhovenaren aren seem to be less than the people in Amsterdam recently.

โ€œ PSV snuck up to the level of Ajaxโ€, analyst Pierre van Hooijdonk praised Schmidts work in Studio Football. โ€œAt the moment PSV is a favorite for the title,โ€ added Ibrahim Afellay. โ€œThey have more power and they smell blood.โ€

However, before the winter stop, PSVs game was also characterized by sudden breakdowns.

โ€œ All players at the same level get in terms of concentration and discipline, which is a big challenge,โ€ says Schmidt about his way of working. โ€œA player knows that he does not have a break in the game. He needs to stick with it, he always needs to focus. Whatever happens, you have a task.โ€

Schmidt already used an incredible number of players, in the top division alone 28, more than with Feyenoord (26), Ajax (24) and AZ (21). And there will be more, with the approaching return of Marco van Ginkel and ร‰rick Gutiรฉrrez.

Schmidt even wrote a book about his extreme approach.

And that he is lacking in reputations, he proved to Heerenveen. With Philipp Max, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Ihattaren, Donyell Malen and Mario Gรถtze he dared to exchange it to his established names for mostly young talent. A hard-fought point was taken.

Schmidt presents himself in fluent English outside the lines as a calm, modest man. On the training field, he has a completely different personality.

The German is on top of it, firmly convinced that his players will get worse if he leaves them alone. In his book, he also tells the ability to train football players so that they can execute his battle plan to perfection.

Several times PSV was released with the fright after a relapse, but in general Schmidt can look back on a fairly stable first half of the year. With a small fall dip, partly due to a violent corona outbreak in the selection.

Thunderspeech in German

Captain Denzel Dumfries also remembers a furious outbreak in the peace of the Europa League duel with PAOK, when PSV was foolish behind. Schmidt gave his thunder speech all of a sudden in German. โ€œThen you know hes really angry.โ€

PSV hasnt lost a match since then, has been eleven official duels undefeated.

According to Dumfries, Schmidts harsh regime provides a strong team spirit, he said on the club channel. โ€œWe deal very well with each other, dare to be honest with each other and are professional. Inside and out of the field.โ€

This became clear when Mohamed Ihattaren made his first hit after a difficult period and Schmidt fell into his arms. And that while the two in the preparation were still so messed up with each other.

According to Dumfries, the Kapitel Schmidt, with a lot of energy and spectacle making an attack in the first place, is only about to begin. The Oranje-International is also aware of his task with this modern football philosophy to get another prize to Eindhoven after three years.

โ€œ No one has seen the best of this PSV.โ€
