Jerdy Schouten has developed into a versatile midfielder at Bologna, who is being watched by coach Frank de Boer. The 24-year-old footballer entered Serie A via Telstar and Excelsior, where he impressed.
The big clubs in the Netherlands left Schouten behind and that seems to have been a mistake. “But it‘s too easy to blame Dutch top clubs”, says the protagonist himself in a big interview with Voetbal International. “In the end, talent always comes out. This is the result of the choice I have made and that they have made. That is fine and there will be reasons for that. But this competition turns out to be just right, especially in terms of playing.”
The midfielder from Hellevoetsluis can present excellent figures in Serie A. For example, he is the number six on the list of midfielders with the highest percentage of successful dribbles and after Manuel Locatelli of Sassuolo and Franck Kessié of AC Milan he won the most balls. “The best part is that my way of playing football was not expected of me for a long time. I have grown in this role over the years and have also picked it up in Italy.”
Frank de Boer announced at a press conference that he was following Schouten’s operations near Bologna. So it seems a matter of time before the blonde number six gets a call for the Dutch team.
