For Alfred Schreuder, it is not an option to pass Dusan Tadic at Ajax. Before the Champions League clash with Napoli, the Amsterdammers trainer admits that it is difficult to pass players like Davy Klaassen and Brian Brobbey.
Rafael van der Vaart asks Schreuder about his changes against Go Ahead Eagles and why Dusan Tadic did stay standing. Has he thought about passing the captain? “No, certainly not at the moment. In addition to his football skills, he also has a certain leadership role in the team”, responds the practice master in front of the Ziggo Sport camera.
“I do understand what Rafael says about switching,” Schreuder continues. “Of course, we swapped a number of guys, but on the other hand, it was just about two boys who hadnt been in the base yet. I think Florian Grillitsch played a great match about that. Klaassen and Brobbey are used to it. But we did miss the creativity in the front, though. But there was also a physical component behind us doing that.”
Schreuder does acknowledge that he has a difficult time with the choices. “Yes, of course. If you dont set up Klaassen, Grillitsch or Brobbey, thats difficult. As a trainer, you just have to do that and try to explain. As an Ajax trainer, you opt for a certain creativity. I think the guys who are now in the base are a better fit for the moment. But that can also be different.”
I think its going to be an open game, two teams that want to attack ⚔ Alfred Schreuder ahead of Ajax – Napoli ⚽ #ZiggoSport #UCL #AJANAP pic.twitter.com/RPSK2YWfrz
