Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was the basis of Alfred Schreuders appointment at Ajax. The former footballer, who now determines the technical policy in Amsterdam together with Gerry Hamstra, sent a WhatsApp to Schreuder, who was still under contract with Club Brugge. The Barnevelder had to switch gears for a while.
Schreuder started his adventure at Ajax this week and also gave his first interview to the club channel of Ajax. “Klaas-Jan asked me if I had time to talk briefly. To do it right, I thought”, Schreuder tells Ajax TV.
Schreuder, however, was in the service of Club Brugge for less than six months. “Im not one who plans their career or anything. If you go from FC Barcelona to Club Brugge and things are going well there, after which Ajax comes, you think: wow, that would be very nice.”
Whether Schreuder understands that Ajax has come to him? “They wanted to continue the line of Erik ten Hag, so I get it in that sense. I was also head coach independently. Its wonderful to return, a great opportunity.”
