Schuurs: ‘I lay very well inside the club, that makes it very difficult’

Perr Schuurs looks back on his four years at Ajax with a good feeling. The 22-year-old defender finds it difficult to say goodbye to the Amsterdammers, but he looks forward to playing regularly at Torino.
“I just had a really nice time here,” Schuurs tells Ajax TV. “Experienced a lot of great moments, met a lot of boys and made friends. Thats the tricky part of football, that you have to leave everyone. But I made the choice to play every week at this age. This was a great opportunity and a great plan in a fantastic competition, especially for defenders. I think I can get better there.”
Schuurs had some doubts about leaving Amsterdam. “Sure, Ajax is a fantastic club, perhaps the top of Europe. When you look at the competition, you have to be realistic and see what your chances are. I had discussions with the trainer and the club. It was very positive to hear that they wanted to keep me, but for me it was just really important that I play ninety minutes every week.”
De Limburger is very grateful to Ajax. “I just noticed that I was really good at the club. That it was greatly appreciated how I was as a person and as a player. That makes it very difficult. I actually came in as a small, shy boy and I go out the door as someone who learned the Amsterdam bluff,” concludes Schuurs, who leaves for Turin for nine million euros.
