Last Sunday Perr Schuurs made his first hit of the season for Ajax by shooting a free kick hard behind Sparta Rotterdam-keeper Maduka Okoye. Schuurs briefly consulted Dusan Tadic and hopes to take more free kicks in the future with the Amsterdammers.
Schuurs started again in the base against Sparta. Recently, Jurriën Timber has been increasingly preferred by trainer Erik ten Hag. “Of course, I played less than the first half of the season. I am especially glad that I was allowed to play again and that we have the three points”, Schuurs starts talking to the club channels.
He repaid the trust of his trainer by shooting a free kick hard behind Okoye. In the past, at his old club Fortuna Sittard he already showed an excellent stair technique. “I used to train on it a lot, now a little less”, says Schuurs, who says that he sees the free kicks of Ronald Koeman as a good example. “The way he took them, so I try to shoot them.”
At last Sunday‘s free kick Schuurs first started talking to Tadic, who finally took the ball on him. “I ran away as if I wouldn’t take it. But it was clear from the beginning, including Dusan, that I would take him.” The hit felt like a liberation. “I have shown it before at Fortuna. If you don‘t do it with Ajax, you don’t want to. I think this is the beginning of more free kicks, I hope so.”
