Demi Schuurs together with her Czech doubles partner Kveta Peschke has won the WTA tournament of Cincinnati. It is for the Dutch tennis star her eleventh doubles title on the WTA tour.
In the finals the American Nicole Melichar and the Chinese Xu Yifan were put aside in three sets: 6-1, 4-6, 10-4.
Earlier in the tournament, which is being finished in New York due to the corona crisis, Schuurs and Peschke already defeated titleholders Lucie Hradecka and Andreja Klepac. In the semi-finals the Dutch/Czech duo won 6-2 and 6-1.
The 27-year-old Schuurs has formed a double couple with Peschke since the beginning of this year. Before the coronastop they had little success, but in New York they only gave up two sets during the tournament.
There’s not much time to enjoy the victory: Monday starts, at the same complex as last week’s game, the US Open.
Schuurs and Peschke were placed fourth at the grandslam tournament and play in the first round against the Canadian Sharon Fichman and the Croatian Darija Jurak.
