Scientists are investigating animals via YouTube

Watching animal videos all day long on YouTube; not for fun, but for science. Researchers in India have done this to learn more about animal behavior.

Jorg Massen is a behavioral biologist; he too is curious about how animals behave and he sometimes looks online at animals for his research.

That‘s what Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel thought. She is a scientist from India and used the video site to investigate how elephants deal with grief, and how they grieve when another elephant dies.

For example, by watching a lot of videos, she discovered that the animals often stay near a deceased relative and that they make certain sounds.

Learning things about animals is important to scientists. But of course, it’s also great fun to watch videos of animals.

You can see more about it in the video above.
