A 35-year-old man from Oosterhout was sentenced to fifteen months imprisonment, of which seven months on probation, for possessing and distributing child and animal pornography.
The man was active as the leader of a scouting club in Elst. According to the court, he maintained contact with a large number of boys through social media between 2015 and 2019, pretending to be a girl. Among the contacts were boys he knew through his scouting group. The conversations were always sexual in nature, writes Omroep Gelderland.
According to the suspect, he searched the internet for child pornography and then sent it to the boys to keep the chat going.
Case kept quiet
The case started rolling after the man made indecent requests to the scouts, which the childrens parents found out. The case was deliberately kept quiet by the municipality, police and scouts, according to the Gelderlander, because they did not want to cause unrest. After publication of the newspaper, all parents received a letter from the municipality.
According to the court, the man violated the trust of the boys and their parents. The court imposes a three-year probationary period on him. Among other things, he must report to the probation service and cooperate in a diagnostic examination and possible outpatient treatment.
The public prosecutor had demanded fifteen months imprisonment, five of which were conditional.
