It becomes easier for underage children whose both parents have died to continue living in the same house. Demissionary State Secretary Vijlbrief writes in response to parliamentary questions of the VVD that he comes up with a solution for harrowing situations.
The questions had already been asked in October following reports of children who are orphans or who are at risk of becoming in the short term. They often inherit the home of their parents, but are then forced to sell it by tax obligations.
Deferral of taxes
Fijlbrief wants to offer a solution by giving these children “long-term deferral of payment of taxes”. Therefore, they do not have to pay the corresponding costs, the recovery interest. The Secretary of State intends to amend the law on this point. He considers it “important that the law expressly takes account of the tragic situation of children in these cases,” he writes to the Chamber.
Before the law has been amended, he has already made a ‘policy decision‘ to accommodate the children. Vijlbrief writes that the answer to the parliamentary questions has been delayed, because he has sought a general solution.
