The rumors have been around for a long time, but there seems to be a new film about The Exorcist in the making. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Gordon Green, who is also behind the Halloween revival, is directed for the new Exorcist.
The 1973 Exorcist was about a 12-year-old girl possessed by a mysterious force. The film raised 193 million dollars, for decades a record for horror films approved only for viewers aged 18 and over. It was only in 2017 that was broken by the Stephen King film It. Between 1977 and 2005, four sequels followed on The Exorcist, all of which did not work as well as the original.
William Friedkin, the director of the first The Exorcist, announced this week that he would not participate in a new film in the franchise. On Twitter, he shared the message: “There are rumors that I‘m involved in a new version of The Exorcist. That’s not a rumor. It‘s definitely a lie. There’s not enough money in the world to motivate me to do this.”
The new The Exorcist is produced by Blumhouse, known for great titles such as the Paranormal Activity movies, The Purge, Insidious and Get Out.
