Seven students died after falling from balcony in university building Bolivia

Seven students died after a fall from a balcony on the fourth floor of a university building near the Bolivian city of La Paz. Another five students were seriously injured in the accident in which the railing of the balcony failed.

The accident happened last Tuesday at the University of El Alto. On the fourth floor, a horde of students had gathered in front of a lecture hall.

Video footage shows how the masses of students are caught in the building of the public university of El Alto when suddenly the railing of the balcony collapses.

It‘s so busy people are pushing and pulling. A young woman pushes another right before the balustrade collapses. The student can still cling to one of her fellow students. The woman will be questioned as part of the investigation, says Jhonny Aguilera Montecinos of the Bolivian police.

โ€œ We regret the tragedy that took place at the public university of El Alto (UPEA), where several people were killed and injured,โ€ wrote Bolivian President Luis Arce on Twitter. โ€œOur deepest condolences to the people of El Alto and the families affected.โ€

Bolivia’s Interior Minister, Eduardo del Castillo, is investigating the tragic accident.
