A container ship almost sailed against the Twistvlietbrug in Zwolle. The skipper made a mistake and set course on a part of the bridge that cannot be opened.
He realised just in time that his ship was too high and made an emergency stop by going into full reverse. You can see that the anchor has also been thrown out.
The ship came to a halt just before the bridge, as can be seen in these images:
According to the IJsselland safety region, there was a blockage elsewhere and the skipper of the barge sailed on this part of the Black Water for the first time.
After the emergency stop the skipper found the part of the bridge that can be raised and he was able to continue his way.
