Dafne Schippers impressed at the Continental Tour races in Ostrava. The athlete was the best on the current 150 meters in a time of 16.56, the fastest European time ever run. The gap with number two Ajla del Ponte was almost two tenths.
Before her participation in the athletics event in Ostrava, known for its experimental parts, skippers never walked a 150 meter. However, the world champion on the 200 meters of 2015 and 2017 suspected that the distance would be her and that thought turned out to be correct.
With Lieke Klaver, who finished third in 16,89, another Dutchman finished on the podium. Also Nadine Visser was at the start, she finished fourth with a time of 16.94.
Smooth victory for Hassan
Sifan Hassan was the best on the 5,000 meters, which in contrast to the 150 meters is also on the program during European Championships and World Championships. The 27-year-old athlete clocked 14.37,86, her best time of the season, but well above her European record of 14.22,12.
Hassan, pre-christened as a top favorite, simply walked away from the competition in the final lap and crossed the finish line with a good lead. Number two Sheila Chelangat (14.40,51) and number three Yasemin Can (14.40,70) had to yield more than 2.5 seconds.
Bol strong again
Femke Bol also delivered an impressive performance by winning the 300 meter hurdles.
The only 20-year-old athlete was 38.55, the best time of the season, with Lea Sprunger (European champion in the 400-metre hurdles) and Zuzana Hejnova (Olympic bronze and twice World Cup gold in the 400-metre hurdles) behind him.
Bol is working on a great season. She smashed the national record of Ester Gosens on the 400 meter hurdles and triumphed on the same distance in Stockholm (Diamond League) and Székesfehérvár (Continental Tour).
