Sloppy Kvitová brawls to eighth finals US Open

Petra Kvitová has reached the eighth finals of the US Open for the fifth time. The Czech tennis star only briefly ran into difficulties against the American Jessica Pegula: 6-4, 6-3.

Early in the second set, Kvitová, who was placed sixth in New York, lost her concentration and she stacked fault on fault (28 in total). The double winner of Wimbledon picked herself up with a few big shouts and came back from 0-2.

“I really had to fight then and with three games won in a row I got back into my rhythm”, said Kvitová afterwards. The Czech tennis star reached at least the semifinals at the other three grand slam tournaments, but never in New York.
