After the season terminated by Corona, Arne Slot intended to extend his contract with AZ. However, since the club leadership did not offer him an offer, he decided not to sign up.
Slot is from next season the trainer of Feyenoord. He negotiated with the Rotterdammers when he was still responsible for AZ and the club did not thank him for that: Slot was sent out the lane. Still, it had little to say whether he had signed up in Alkmaar. “After the successful season, which unfortunately broke down because of corona, I was open to open my contract and extend it for several years,” says Slot to De Cceit.
It surprised him that general director Robert Eenhoorn and technical director Max Huiberts did not hear anything from him when he indicated he wanted to sign. “That signal was in the wind for a long time. I also indicated that it was undesirable for me to enter the new season with an expiring contract. But I had to wait a long time for a concrete proposal from AZ.”
Mid-June 2020 heard Slot that they wanted to continue with him. “In May I indicated that I wanted to extend and in June Eenhoorn and Huiberts also said they would like to continue and contact my manager Mino Raiola. I only received an official proposal at the end of September, in which I was able to sign one season. So I ended up closing that. Not long after I canceled AZ, Feyenoord really made me work.”
