AZ-trainer Arne Slot has Sunday night in Rondo discussed the development of Calvin Stengs. According to analyst Ruud Gullit, the left leg can follow in the footsteps of Hakim Ziyech: Slot draws precisely the comparison with Steven Berghuis.Gullit saw Stengs Wednesday night three quarters of an hour playing against Spain and enjoyed it. “He looks a bit like Ziyech, in his way of playing football. He wants to give those cards, too. Come inside, fit…” However, the Ziggo Sport analyst notes that there are still plenty of areas for improvement for Stengs. “He must grow, become more constant and play at a higher level.”
Slot partially agrees with his tablemate. “What I say to him every time: I would like him to become as decisive for AZ as Steven (Berghuis, red.) is for Feyenoord,” he says. “Because I think: if you are as good as Calvin is, there should be more returns, especially towards goals and assists. He had planned that, but he started the season unhappily with his injury and his red card (against PEC Zwolle, red.).”
Stengs will be on two Eredivisie hits this season. On Sunday evening he played his fourth interland against Bosnia and Herzegovina: 21-year-old Amsterdammer dissolved Berghuis just before time.
🔮 Expectations are high at @GullitR: Do you know who could play like Ziyech? Calvin Stengs! His coach Arne Slot: If you are such a good player as Calvin, there must be more return. #Rondo #ZiggoSport pic.twitter.com/VT1KManals
