Wim Kieft and Arne Slot keep fond memories of Piet Schrijvers (75) who died on Wednesday. Both the former striker and the trainer of Feyenoord experienced the former goalkeeper during his career.
Slot was at the beginning of his career at PEC Zwolle, when Schrijvers was at the helm there. “You always have a memory of the trainer who makes you debut. For me, that was Piet Schrijvers. Apart from that, I also think of the person behind the trainer. Piet seemed pretty harsh from the outside, but for me as a young player it was a very sweet, gentle man,” he says at ESPN.

Kieft was still on the field together with ‘The Bear of the Meer’. “I played football with him for three years, in my debut years at Ajax. He was the routine, a great guy, but above all, a great goalkeeper. I learned a great deal from him. He was a bit on the heavy side, but played full of passion,” says the analyst at Veronica. The Amsterdam club also reflects on the death of Schrijvers, just like FC Twente and PEC Zwolle.
Rest easy, Pete. ♥️
