Sony bought Housemarque studio โ€” developer Return

Sony announced that it had acquired the Housemarque studio, known for games such as Resogun, Nex Machina, Matterfall and Return. Now it has become part of PlayStation Studios. According to SIE Worldwide Studios head Herman Hulst, releasing Return, the Finnish studio has proved that it โ€œhas incredible vision and is capable create memorable new games that are responsive in the community.

โ€ โ€œWe are so excited to finally join the PlayStation Studios family. This gives our studio a clear future and a stable opportunity to continue using gameplay oriented approaches while still experimenting with new storytelling techniques and pushing boundaries of this modern art formโ€ โ€” Ilari Kuittinen, co-founder and managing director of Housemarque.

Kuittinen said that with the support of SIE and its studios, Housemarque will be able to truly to take its place in the industry and show what it can create without limits. In an interview with Famitsu Hulst and Kuittinen said that negotiations on the deal began in 2020, but were deferred from – upvoted for the Return releases.
