The British American software pioneer John McAfee can be handed over to the United States by Spain, a Supreme Court has ruled. He was arrested in October on suspicion of tax evasion and has since been stuck pending extradition.
U.S. Justice says McAfee, who founded the well-known antivirus company McAfee in the 1980s, did not submit tax returns from 2014 to 2018. He would also have withheld property, including real estate, a yacht and a car. In the years McAfee would have made millions of dollars.
According to 75-year-old McAfee, the allegations are politically motivated because they would have to deal with his political ambitions. McAfee states that the tax authorities started a case against him because he announced that he wanted to take part in the US presidential election for the second time two months earlier. He also said he was going to address the tax authorities.
McAfee was arrested at Barcelona Airport in early October 2020. He was just about to board a plane to Istanbul with his British passport.
