A Dutch mountaineer was found dead in Spain. Police found the man of 46 in his tent at a height of more than 3000 metres at the western summit of the Picos del Infierno, in the Pyrenees near the French border, regional media reports.
Rescue services had been warned by another mountaineer. Around 9.30 a.m., a helicopter took off to investigate. Due to cloud formation, the helicopter could only land near a lake nearby. From there, rescuers had to walk 50 minutes on foot with a stretcher to the tent.
Inside they found the deceased Dutchman. Because no traces of violence have been found, the police are now presumed of natural death. Autopsy has yet to confirm that. The remains have been transferred to the hospital in the town of Jaca in Huesca province.
