Sparta Rotterdam continues to have an excellent chance at the play-offs to European football. The Rotterdammers are making an advance in the Eredivisie and managed to defeat Vitesse on their own Castle. After ninety minutes of playing there was a 1-0 final score on the scoreboard.
It was a parallel first half between Sparta and Vitesse. Halfway through the first half, the home team took the initiative: the team of trainer Henk Fraser managed to push Vitesse back on his own half a few times and that resulted in the lead about ten minutes before the rest. Bryan Smeets headed a perfect front of Mario Engels behind Remko Pasveer.
Vitesse tried to give back for rest. It came through Maximilian Wittek twice close to the equalizer, but he couldn‘t find the target. The away team could have received a penalty, after a handsball by Adil Auassar, but Bas Nijhuis and the VAR did not want to take it.
After rest, another Vitesse appeared. The Arnhemmers were better at the lesson and that soon resulted in the first chances. Oussama Tannane got several times the chance to fire a free kick on the goal of Sparta, but he shot the ball up to three times in the wall.
The team of Thomas Letsch continued to insist, but did not manage to get the ball past Maduka Okoye. In the final phase of the competition, Sparta benefited from the space offered: the Rotterdam people managed to expand the gap further. Lennart Thy was allowed to work the ball from a corner kick completely free behind Pasveer, not much later Emanuel Emegha made his first hit in the paid football: 3-0.
Through the victory, Sparta is doing excellent business in the battle for the play-offs for European football. Fraser’
s team climbs over Heracles Almelo to eighth place. The Almeloans will still be in action against neighbor FC Twente on Saturday.
