Football: Argentinian midfielder Gago stops

11:41 Argentine midfielder Fernando Gago, former player of Real Madrid, has ended his footballoop course. The 34-year-old Gago has experienced many injuries in recent years, including severe knee injury.

Gago ended his career in his own country, near Vรฉlez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires. For the past seven years, he played in the same town for Boca Juniors. From 2006 to 2013 Gago played in Europe, for Real Madrid, AS Roma and Valencia. At Real Madrid, he won two national championships in 2007 and 2008,

Gago was part of the Argentine World Championships in 2014. Argentina finished second at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. In the final against Germany, which was lost by 1-0, Gago filled in for Enzo Pรฉrez just before the end of the regular playing time. In the semi-finals, the Argentines were too strong for Orange through penalty kicks.

Motorsport: Grand Prix of Oss on 23 May on calendar World Cup

11:25pm The Grand Prix of Oss will be on the calendar of the Motocross World Championships on Sunday 23 May. The weekend in Noord-Brabant means the fourth race weekend of the championship.

Circuit De Witte Ruysheuvel in Oss has a place on the calendar of the Motocross World Championships until 2025. In the past, the circuit in Noord-Brabant was the backdrop for a grand prix in the motocross. In recent years De Witte Ruysheuvel was a permanent stop in the Open Dutch Championship, Dutch Masters.

The competition in Oss takes the place of the Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard, which organized the Grand Prix of the Netherlands this spring just before the outbreak of the coronavirus. Jeffrey Herlings won his home race.

The Motocross of Nations takes place on Sunday 26 September at the Italian circuit of Imola.

The Sloveen Tim Gajser recently prolonged his world title in the MXGP. He did so in the absence of Herlings and Glenn Coldenhoff, both of whom ended the season prematurely due to injuries.

Cycling: Riis at the end of the season road at NTT Pro Cycling

09:13 hrs Bjarne Riis stops at the end of the current cycling season as team manager of cycling team NTT Pro Cycling. The 56-year-old Dane was only employed by the South African team since the beginning of this year.

NTT Pro Cycling reports that Riis and his partners Jan Bech Andersen and Lars Seier Christensen have also stopped talks about a (partial) takeover of the team. According to NTT Pro Cycling, which has been called Dimension Data in recent years, the coming period is dedicated to โ€œfighting for the survival of the team.โ€

Riis had to deal with NTT Pro Cycling, among others Domenico Pozzovivo, Giacomo Nizzolo and Edvald Boasson Hagen. The Dane was previously the team leader of CSC, Saxo Bank and Tinkoff.

Basketball: NBA icon Tommy Heinsohn (86) died

07.34 a.m.: The former American NBA player and coach Tommy Heinsohn died at the age of 86. His former clubs Boston Celtics announced that he won ten NBA titles first as a player and later as a trainer.

Heinsohn was a power forward of over 2 meters. As a player, he was part of the Celtics team that dominated American basketball from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. In 1957 Heinsohn took his first title with the Celtics, and from 1959 to 1965 there were seven more in a row.

In 1974 and 1976, the American added two more titles to his career as a coach. Afterwards he became a successful commentator for radio and TV.
